And those people who have not watched this movie “The way we were” directed by Sydney Pollock, better watch it once.
I was watching this movie other day and I liked everything in the movie, though it hurts at the end to know that they get separated, all because of the “differences”.
Everything was good in the movie; and the way Katie (leading character in the movie) expressing her emotions when they are about to breakup (It happens twice in the movie) and the way Hubbell responds, their differences, their belief, and the message.
She is idealistic, Marxist; who believes strongly in what she wants to do and her anti-war campaign. He has very natural skill for writing and he is handsome too for which she loves him. They fall in love and then they fall in the process of understanding the differences.
During their first break up, what brings them back is this:
He Says, "Katie, you expect so much"
And she responds with a smile, "Oh, but look what I have got!"
Movie ends like this:
After their breakup, they meet after many years:
He asks, “You never give up, do you?”
She replies, “only when I am absolutely forced, but I am very good loser”
“Better than I am” is his response.
And what follow next is one very romantic move and a something which you absolutely admire though you feel sad.
During 2nd time breakup, she requests him, “will you stay with me till the baby is born?” for which he agrees. They get divorce after that.
And I was thinking, what if she said “will you stay with me till our baby is born?” and I am still guessing!
